We recently received the following advice concerning these patents:
"[During May] the patents expired in the UK and most of the world. In the U.S. they are still alive until Oct. 13, 2009 (2 of them) and Oct. 27, 2009 (1 of them). When a patent has expired, there is no need to license. Patents are also territorial, so there is no need to license a U.S. patent if you are only using it in Asia." Can anyone verify the accuracy of this? Are there any plans concerning FreeType development once these patents have expired?
