Compilation should work now with 4.7 (or even older versions).
Adam, please try compilation again. I've forgotten to include
configure's `config.h' header in the gui source code; maybe this is
the reason for the clash between GNU getopt and Qt on your Mac.

yep! builds without a hitch on both Ubuntu 11.10 and OpenSuse 12.1
Will test on OSX later tonight.
