In the interest of time, I've commited the original suggestion for now, as I feel that my alternative solution is a bit of a hack as it is; I have to test other fonts and decide if it's better to keep hinting on, and devise a better way of ignoring the hintmask than what I've provided above. > And thanks for working on this!
