Hmm. I have thought along similar lines. Presently I have organized my maybe
4-500 games into six subdirectories, which works kinda OK.

But there are several quite good MAME front-ends out there. What I thought
about trying (but haven't got around to as usual :) was to start an external
MAME front-end instead of the MAME front-end in Freevo.

Then again, most front-ends I've tried have had a lot of quirky dependencies
and since sorting and stuff would be too hard on the existing front-end..
hmm..

I suppose I stand neutral on the subject then :)

Oh, one more thing; I have _never_ _ever_ gotten icons/screens to work with
the freevo MAME front-end. And not for any other game types either. Is there
a trick to naming or filetypes?

Ämne: [Freevo-devel] MAME games sorting

As Freevo 1.4 seems stable, i want to introduce a new features for the
management of MAME games in 1.5.
Here is my problem :
1 - I have more than 1600 games in my MAME folder
2 - Even with the name and the snapshot, it is difficult to parse all
the
files in order to find the desired game

So my idea is to use some external parameters to sort the games with the
following menus :
MAME games by year
   |
   |-> 1980
   |-> 1981
   |-> ...
   |-> 2002
MAME games by genre
   |-> Arcade
   |-> Platform
   |-> ...
   |-> Puzzle

Of course, the submenus (year and genre) are automatically generated by
parsing the MAME folders AND the history.dat file (found at
http://fandemame.emu-france.com/)

But i don't know how to use the mediamenu in this case. Do you have any
ideas about that kind of sorting ??

Regards, Sylvain
