Hi,
I tried the webserver today and here some things to talk about:
1. The recording listing gets the informations from the epg. It should get everything needed (inclusing description) from the recordserver. I changed that (not in cvs right now)
The recordserver doesn't have all the information. I think that the recordserver should be using the EPG to flag which programs are to be recorded and each of the webserver, recordserver, and freevo main consult the EPG. I'm not saying we should get rid of recordserver.fxd, I just think the recordings list should contain a program id for the EPG and a file path if the show has been saved.
2. The recording listing and the search page show the description. For long descriptions (about 10 lines) this looks very strange, with the current center alignment even more strange. Maybe we should hide the description and also the possible actions and use a window like in the guide?
I don't have any descriptions nearly that long, some maybe a few lines. I'd prefer to have the descriptions right in front of me, not having to click to see them. BTW what resolution are you running at? Maybe we can trade some screenshots.
3. Speaking of the window: why don't we just use a simple window, not
the inside stuff? I would like to move the window, I'm not happy
with the current stuff. The one window can be used with the guide,
the recording listing and the search. One window containing the
description and possible actions.
Do you mean the css/div popup window? Do you wish to create a new framed type of trimmed browser window? If so those take more overhead and also break the look and feel of the page. Since Tack had reworked those windows they preform great and maintain the sleek look advantage.
4. I don't like the guide layout. Most websites I know use a column for a channel and the rows for the times. I like the layout of www.tvtv.de (German)
Most websites I know do it the way we're doing it, rows for channels, cols for time. Maybe this is a European vs NA thing?
I most certainy wish to keep mine layed out as it is. This to me seems more natural. I have lots of channels and only want to see what's on in the next couple of hours. That's how our TV based guide works too, would you rather see that in the other format?
Something like that may not be too hard to make configurable. If it is then its no tbig deal since Freevo's become so modular in that respect.
5. I would like to move all 'pages' into the plugins dir
Me too. The navbar would then be a list of queried plugins, etc.
Comments? Someone with html/css skills willing to help?
Even though I've done the first one or two itterations of the web stuff I really don't enjoy it. Everything I've been putting in since has been given a general layout in the hopes someone else would like to pretty it up.
