I can't speak to the skin subsystem, but I can say that the underlying canvas architecture will have no technical limitations that I can think of (except for possibly CPU limitations). Whatever you can imagine in terms of design and layout, or even how video itself interacts with the application, the canvas should be able to do. It will be possible to put video on the canvas, so if you want an interface that has a small thumbnail view of the video (even translucent if you like) in the corner while you're navigating the menus, and when you're done and want to view the video, it can slide and zoom and fade back in as it goes to full screen, the canvas will make all this possible. Now I don't know if the skin system will. Tivo has some pretty varying color schemes that aren't blue and I think look pretty good. There was a ReplayTV (IIRC) screenshot I saw that had gorgeous people and blue tones. It inspired me to create this design for MeBox: http://sault.org/~tack/mebox-menu.jpg I'm not sure if I'll end up using that design -- if and when I ever get to the point of working directly on MeBox again -- but I still like it. It's not blue, but it's still soft and friendly but modern. (I'm not a designer, so I can only copy good ideas from other places. I think I'm pretty good at recreating pixels from what I see, but not so good at coming up with new ideas.) Cheers, Jason.
