When crawling directories, beacon stats all files in a directory.  If
the directory has already been indexed, technically it only needs to
stat the directory and not all the regular files underneath it.  It only
needs to stat all the regular files if the mtime on the dir has changed.
If the mtime on the dir hasn't changed, beacon can use the mtime for the
regular files in that dir that are stored in the db.
