Hi No, a reboot is not necessary. That was one of the reasons why we are using that methode, because with nvram our bios would need the reboot.
I have tested the acpi methode with two different PCs here, which both supported it. But I guess it depends on your bios. There should be a option concerning "wake on alarm" or something similar in the bios setup.
