Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: plugins Group: 1.6.2 >Status: Pending >Resolution: Invalid Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Yesmad (yesmad) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Weather does not return correct information Initial Comment: The weather plugin does not return the correct weather information. For example: for Los Angeles the following URL is parsed by the weather plugin: http://www.msnbc.com/m/chnk/d/weather_d_src.asp?acid=USCA0638 This data is corretly parsed, but the data does not always match: http://weather.msn.com/local.aspx?wealocations=wc:USCA0638 Reloading the first URL a number of times, generates different results, but never the correct results. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Duncan Webb (duncanwebb) Date: 2006-12-29 00:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=104395 Originator: NO I'm not exactly sure what you want freevo to do about this. Ryan Roth has written a plugin for weather updates called, weather_update :) In fact, these are not the url's use for weather It uses: http://www.msnbc.com/m/chnk/d/weather_d_src.asp?acid=USCA0638 and the data returned is like: function makeWeatherObj() { this.swCity = "Los Angeles"; this.swSubDiv = "CA"; this.swCountry = "USA"; this.swRegion = "United States"; this.swTemp = "55"; this.swTempCel = Math.round((5/9)*(this.swTemp-32)); this.swCIcon = "12"; this.swWindS = "5"; this.swWindD = "E"; this.swBaro = "29.93"; this.swHumid = "88"; this.swReal = "55"; this.swUV = "0"; this.swVis = "1.50"; this.swLastUp = "12/27/2006 07:58:00"; this.swConText = "Heavy Rain"; this.swFore = "4|5|6|7|1|12/27/2006|12/28/2006|12/29/2006|12/30/2006|12/31/2006|11|32|32|32|30|43|24|24|24|4|61|63|66|69|72|60|0|10|10|10|45|31|29|33|29|15|11|4|23|4|42|40|43|45|48|"; this.swAcid = "USCA0638"; Which I believe is a visual basic object or something similar, much easier to parse. There is a simpler idlebar plugin for weather which is an ideal candidate for Pymetar. This would be a good little plugin for someone to re-write. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Yesmad (yesmad) Date: 2006-12-28 16:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1140558 Originator: YES Perhaps the plugin could monitor the RSS feed of msnbc? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Gorka Olaizola (gorka) Date: 2006-12-28 12:27 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=309801 Originator: NO I notice the same when doing the i18n changes to the plugin (Feature Request #1621819). The weather plugin could use Pymetar http://www.schwarzvogel.de/software-pymetar.shtml for receiving information from National Weather Service but we'll lose the four day forecast. If someone is interested I could add the code for selecting between the actual code and PyMetar fetched data. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=446895&aid=1623167&group_id=46652 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
