What about the permissions of the file, it's not owned by root and your using a non-root user? As a test I did this: cp -p local_conf.py-5.23 local_conf.py-test freevo convert_config local_conf.py-test -w diff -Nau local_conf.py-5.23 local_conf.py-test Works a treat.
