Get a release arranged. Really. The one thing that stops me (and I guess more
than me) to help out with 2.x work is that it's non-trivial to get to/play
with. As there is no 2.x release done now, there is no write up of the
dependencies for the 2.x code, and (hence) nothing in the packages maintained
by the distros to support 2.x.

If you can help to get a 2.0-pre1 officially released so it can get into the
repos I believe the barrier of entry for testers and the occational hacker
would drop a lot.

My own rig is used by the family and _all_ interrupts need to be scheduled
carefully. Not having package manager support to roll in/out the deps for the
1.x and 2.x branches is a large barrier for testing 2.x

And from a hacking point of view, working too much on 1.x (I'd like to fix up
the lcd/lcd2 plugins for example) seems useless, as eventually we'll all move
to 2.x anyway.

So, any work to be able to get onto the 2.x code branch using the normal
package management tools would be a highly appeciated (and I guess would bump
up the number of 2.x contributers).

2.x-pre1 need not be feature complete in any sense of the word. Just get
_someting_ out there.
