Hi,

I just wanted to give a quick update on my work on the mobile interface
for Freevo 1.x using iui.

There is talk on the iui list at the moment about including a skin for
android phones which should make it possible to just check the user
agent and serve either an iphone styled interface or an android style so
hopefully it'll be possible to support both devices (and more in the
future, I'm eagerly awaiting getting my hands on a Nokia N900 sometime
early in the new year).

As for the actual code I've finally been able to look at it over the
last few weeks and have a bit of the functionality that will be needed
working. The code started off as a real hack as I go effort and really
needs some cleaning up before being submitted for inclusion in the rel-1
branch but I'm hoping that sometime in January/February this might be
possible (though this could slip). For now you can view your tv guide,
browse your media, play music from your collection and view images but
you can't play video (I think I know why though so it might be included
at some stage). You can view scheduled recordings and remove them, you
can't add recordings yet though and it probably won't be a feature I'll
look at for a while. You can't use the web remote but I hope to include
it, or a reworked web remote, at some stage.

I have to say I've been testing this on an ipod touch and I've never
been a big mp3 player user but having remote access to my home media
might change that, especially if that was from a mobile device where I
could get access almost anywhere.

There are quite a few other features that I'd like to see someday. Two
that come to mind are to reencode and stream videos and TV live to your
handset and the control of home automation setups.

If anyone has any other suggestions on what you'd like to see from a
mobile interface or thoughts in general on this can you reply to this
thread?

John
