Yeah I think so :)

I was just doing this myself, another remote though, anyway...

What most prob is the issue is that the /dev/lirc isn't a file it's a dir...
So you would need to change the startup abit to reflect what you have in
it..

I had to add '-d /dev/lirc/0', might be '-d /dev/lirc/serial' also.

Oh.. and check if your running devfs.
