It seems, that I've downloaded the old rsync-freevo which downloads the
1.3.4.ebuild.
But I don't really thing that's the problem.
I've just emerged the 1.4rc1.ebuild but still having a non-starting freevo but
this time I don't even get any error message....

That's strange. But Gentoo users should use the ebuild. Download
rsync-freevo from freevo.sf.net/gentoo, run it and emerge freevo.
