Just to let you know why you need xine, it looks like you are using
mplayer for dvd playback. Mplayer doesn't support dvd menu navigation,
but Xine does.
So you need to d/l and compile xine.
then add some thing like 'fbxine = /usr/bin/fbxine' in freevo.conf
then add some thing like 'xine = /usr/bin/xine' in freevo.conf
and then add 'plugin.activate('video.xine')' in local_conf.py
and if you use VCD and would like to browse them there's a separate
option called 'XINE_USE_VCDNAV = 0' in local_conf.py
