what would be a better idea would be how can I set freevo to not use mplayer
for playing mp3 files?

if you use madplay with the madlib libraries you can play mp3's in high
quality on a 486.

I know this would break the time into the song but those two things would
make freevo a good music/photo solution on a older/slow machine such as the
old websurfer pro.

Subject: [Freevo-users] Howto tell freevo not to update screen while
playing mp3s

I run freevo on a low end box. When freevo plays mp3s it consumes
about 50% of my CPU cycles. Mplayer eats another 20%. I do a lot of
other stuff on this box so I want to conserve cycles. Is there anyway to
get freevo not to update the display while playing mp3s? I really don't
care to now that the playing tune has reached position 03:23 anyway.

regards alex
