Didn't know about the Hauppauge MediaMVP. Sounds like a great device!

However, freevo currently is implemented in Python, which renders it unusable
on devices with low processing power. A high-performance front-end for Freevo
could be created (it's messge bus can be networked), but, this would be a
huge task for Freevo 1.x. Maybe it is possible with the 2.x version?

Thus, VNC indeed is your only option by now. Lirc can be chained via the
network. Read the lirc docs to see how.

Richard.

Subject: [Freevo-users] Freevo and thin clients

great OSS PVR. Well done folks!

I bought a Hauppage MediaMVP specifically for two reasons: to use with Freevo
as a silent thin-client, and to load mvpmc ( http://www.mvpmc.org or
http://mvpmc.sf.net ) as the thin-client application. I have it configured
to play Freevo recordings from a Samba file share using the mvpmc file
browser. For those not familiar with the mvpmc project, it has integrated
MythTV and ReplayTV frontend clients, SlimServer client, VNC client, VLC
compatibility via the file browser, as well as a Hauppage server
compatibility mode.

and if anyone else is running mvpmc on it. Playing recordings from the
filebrowser works great, but it would be fantastic to be able to operate
Freevo from the MediaMVP as well. Ideally, that would mean someone with much
more experience than myself contributing a front-end client to the mvpmc
project. In the short term, I've tried setting up Freevo running inside a
VNC server session, which itself works great. The mvpmc can connect to it
fine, and it displays well. The problem I'm having is that the Hauppage
remote control codes are sent over VNC as RFB keycodes. I tried creating an
xmodmap to remap the RFB keycodes into something that Freevo can understand,
but I'm having problems with most keys generating different KeyPress and
KeyRelease event codes. So Freevo sees two different keypresses for each
remote button, which usually messes things up. Does anyone else have any
good ideas for runnin

can't say I'm familiar with Lirc's capabilities...
