It's Xorg 7.1.1 I think. Basically, it's the ubunutu edgy release version. Not sure what that is ;-). But, I found a post on the ubuntu forums talking about tearing on LCD displays being caused by non-conforming viertical refresh. Which got me thinking about my "custom" modline for my panasonic projector. My PJ manual says 1280x720 will give the best picture quality, as thats 1 to 1 pixel ratio. So I made custom modeline to match it.. Buut, when I look at the X session log; it calls my modeline a "virtual screen" and seems to be picking the nearest "native" (as in native to the mga driver, not my screen) resolution. This log file is great! It actually blurbs all the "native" mode's for the mga card as in selects which ones to match you custom on to (at least this is what I think it does). So.. I simply picked the nearest match (1280x768) and now the tearing is gone. The good news is that now my X conf file doesn't need customer modelines; and my tearing is gone. The bad news is I don't think my card (g400) supports a modeline of 1280x720. Oh well. I'd rather not have the tearing and miss our on that little bit of pixel perfection. ;-). But I'd like to discuss xmga and how the hell to get it to work?? I actually find that I can "only" get Xv dirver to work. X11 doesn't work, xmga doesn't work, xvidix doesn't work. Mplayer pops up a message about iunable to intialise 'vo'. Mplayer says xmga is avaialable.. Soo what am I missing (now)?
