He might be talking about MeBox.  MPlayer-as-a-platform was the initial
approach I was going to take for MeBox and I had prototyped it.  It is
viable in some ways, but looking at the bigger picture it was too
problematic.  So we will not be taking that route for Freevo (nor will I
be taking that route for MeBox, should I ever actually write it :))
