Hi, Bought myself a ps3 last weekend as an replacement for my hush epia1000 with freevo and to be able to play some games so now and then. The Epia was doing great over the last few years but isn't capable to play hdtv content @ 1080p or even 1080i. More and more content are in these formats nowadays...so i'ts time to get ready for the future.
Did some reading up and with YellowDogLinux 5.0.1 Wifi is supported to get some needed steams over a share or inet. http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pipermail/yellowdog-announce/2007-May/000155.html The ps3 is able to play 1080 content and only with one cell processor in linux. http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pipermail/yellowdog-general/2007-March/021298.html Bleutooth remote seems to be supported in linux. http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html Accelerated video drivers is the only thing missing due to the hypervisor but when running only freevo on it there is no need for 3D. When configured it seems to be a nice all in one solution. Top notch games with the PS3 shared with freevo on a linux partition acting as htpc for playing the content the ps3 gameOS is not able to play. A perfect combination!! So are there any others who have freevo already running on a PS3 and want to share there experiences. Any caveats, things to watch out for ? Although I've seen some reports that 1080i and 1080p is functioning fine on only one cell processor I am not so sure if that's really true. It would be great if anybody can give some confirmation about this ? Also not sure if it's possible to use the sixaxis ps3 controller to navigate through the freevo gui. There was a freevo bluetooth plugin years ago IIRC. Have to look into that a bit further.
