Hi all,

I'm running Freevo 1.5.3 and fancy some of the new features in 1.7. However I
trained the wife
too well and now she won't live without freevo - so I have to upgrade as
seemlessly as possible!
Apt (on Ubuntu) thinks I have to upgrade almost everything to get anywhere, so
can probably be
considered "useless" for the purposes of a quick safe upgrade.

I will install 1.7 from source. I have downloaded and installed the kaa
packages easily (they
coexist with mmpython no problem), and want to back up freevo 1.5.3 completely.
Using "rsync
-arvu" I have backed up /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/freevo,
/usr/share/doc/freevo*,
/usr/bin/freevo, /etc/freevo and all the freevo.po files in /usr/share/locale.
Finally, I copied
my $HOME/.freevo folder.

Am I missing anything? I assume that I can perform uninstallation of 1.7
should something be
broken easily, by using "python setup.py install --record installed_files". Is
there any
stumbling blocks I might face? Particularly, is there any files freevo
modifies that might get
very confused? (or is it even possible to duel run two versions?)

Sorry for the fairly newbie question, and hope its not too off-topic...

Cheers, Dan

PS I can write a safe upgrade procedure up in the Wiki if a) it works and b)
its considered
generally useful...
