Aaaah, so mplayer creates the thumbnail, not kaa itself. I notised while building mplayer that png/gif/jpeg output drivers where disabled but I tought that I didn't need them. So now I rebuild mplayer with png/gif/jpeg and suddenly I have thumbnails...
