I do not know why this is not working. From what I see in the code,
files and DVDs should be handled the same way.
Is kaa seeing the audio and subtitle streams in the vob?
What is mminfo saying?

What exactly do you mean? When you choose xine, then mplayer is called or
when you choose xine, xine is not working (black screen and return to menu)?
I did submit a patch which removes players that are not expected to be able to
play the item from the alternate player menu (patch in current svn).
Is xine still in the menu with that patch?
