Actually that should be 'lacked', as of 1.7.4 there is a text entry screen, used by the 'Search for Program' plugin. It's generic and could be used for just about anything, only 1 downside, at the moment it's only a single line of text. Check out tv/plugins/search_programs.py and skin/widgets/textentry_screen.py on how to use it.
