Thank you for the help and info! :)
I think that what I did wrong was the following:
I copied the 'svn command' literally from
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/download/freevo.php
in a terminal. That wrong command is:
svn co svn://svn.freevo.org/freevo/branches/rel-1 freevo-1.x
I think it should be:
svn co svn://svn.freevo.org/freevo/branches/rel-1-7 freevo-1.7-svn

Anyway, after running ./autogen.sh and copying
/home/me/source/freevo-1.7-SVN/freevo/src/image/viewer.py
to the freevo/image dir in site-packages, the alpha-blend mode in Image View
worked!

I love freevo! I hope the documentation will be updated soon, or will be
updated when version 2.0 is out.

Best regards to everybody, Jansen

P.S. Webserver works too. I directed my browser to the location that is
mentionen in the messages on the command line,. Should have been
http://localhost:8080. :)
P.P.S Is there a screenshot or a description of the differences between 1.7 and
the forecoming 2.0?
