Neither python-pylirc nor w32codecs are essential to run Freevo, however you
will not be able to play certain movies nor use a remote with lirc (but if
you can access your remote through linux input layer via /dev/*input*/*event
*<n> devices, you won't need lirc either;
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Remote_controllers) .

For w32codecs, you can see
http://phorolinux.com/how-to-install-non-free-multimedia-codecs-on-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html

For python-pylirc may be you have to install from sources.

Nevertheless, Gutsy is an old version now and is about to be out of support
(april-09), so I think it should be wise (and easier to mainain) install
Hardy (8.04LTS) and Freevo.
