Hi all,
just a short note to let you know that Piren, the Freevo-Centric, Debian based
live distribution, is available for download from http://www.piren.org/

It would be beautiful to have a link on the Freevo website, since I think it's
the more updated Freevo live-cd available. :)

Here's the announcement, cut'n'pasted from the official web-site:

After lots of time, the very last Piren version is finally available!
The main software base is changed, becoming even simpler. However, the final
image is bigger than before because the main target for the official release is
now a 256 Mb flash memory, so you can find a more updated software base and
several demo files that you can enjoy directly from the ISO: a big "thank you"
goes to Immanuel Casto (http://www.castoimmanuel.org/), a great italian
singer, for providing the multimedia content (including his last video).

Piren 8.12 is based upon Debian Lenny and uses only Debian related packages.
Freevo is updated as well, reaching version 1.8.x, and with Firefox version 3
you can surf the web much better than before.
There are also other improvements:

- Freevo resolution can be set by user (defaults to 800x600), while X.Org
provides the best resolution available to improve browsing experience.
- No more window managers, because everything now works without this
requirement.
- New guided installation procedure for installing Piren to hard disk as a
regular Debian system.
- Other installation procedures, like the previous version, are still
available.
- Default Freevo configuration is really minimal: you are encouraged to
remaster Piren, adding all the plugins and multimedia features you want.

As usual, Piren can be customized very easily using piren-remaster, a small
command-line tool provided along with the distribution that lets you make
personal releases with a different software collection or settings. It gives
you the freedom to expand Piren capabilities or even to remove some features
to generate a smaller image.

Kind regards,

//Davide
