Note:
* this does _not_ "fix" -fwrapv, it even works without now,
  but we _still_ retain using -fwrapv because it fixes other
  bugs…
* I could _not_ test this with trunk because I can't boot
  trunk on my ASUS WL-500g… instead, I copied this file into
  the 1.0 branch and built an image there, which works.

@wbx: should I add this fix to the 1.0 branch as well?
