Yes, you are right, there is no such option in FreeWRT. At least no
documented one, but i also searched the wireless script and couldn't
find one. I can't tell if this just never got implemented (e.g. lack of
interest) or if someone actually choose against implementing it.

Hiding the SSID is quite useless and gives a wrong sense of security.
Just use WPA wich a _strong_ passphrase for your wireless, and you
should be safe. Even with a broadcasted "try2hackme" SSID.
Or even better, but more complex: leave the WLAN open, but handle it
(FILTER it) like some external interface (like the WAN). No traffic
except to public services in your DMZ, for everything else a VPN session
is required.
