I've also had this problem once. It turned out I could fix it by manually 
setting the ARP entry for the box. You might want to try that and check if the 
device becomes pingable after assigning the IP manually to the MAC address.

If this does not work either you could try Asus' Windows Recovery tool and 
flash the latest official firmware to the device with it. After doing that you 
could upload a custom firmware with the web interface again.
