I have software to unlock any Nokia including the 7110, to allow any SIM
card. I can mail it to anyone if required. It does require the DAU-9
connector cable... I've used it successfully on the 7110, a 6130 and a
6150.
I've used the built in modems in both the Siemens S25 and Nokia 7110 - both
work well with the Palm - the Seimens is smaller and easier to carry about,
while the Nokia supports a faster baud rate (where the network supports it).

Not so sure about palms, but the modem stuff will be the same - I use an
Ericson SH888 (with in-built modem and IRDA support) - if you'r blipping
about
from country to country, then it's murder if you don't have an 'Unlocked'
phone
(ie a phone that will work with any SIM card) as roaming charges can be very
expensive - if you can get roaming in the first place.... phones with
built-in
modems + IRDA are expensive too, especially when you have to page 50 quid
premium to have them unlocked.... I sometimes wish I'd paid less money for
the
phone, and bought a cable - phone specific :-( - to go with my modem
card.....
these cost upwards of 100 quid, but at least if you get a cable for a common
phone you can pick up cheap phones with local cards in it from any country
you
go to.... and you end up with a nice collection of telephones.....
One thing to watch out for is some pay-as-you-go phone companies do NOT
allow
you unlock the phone (not mentioning ORANGE, of course).... If you use
linux,
then it's probably a good idea to check out the IRDA project homepage take a
look at supported phones and palmtops... even for non-linux users, this can
be
a handy guide to the technical specs/problems with phones or anything else
with
a IRDA port in it.
