I don't get it, or I just don't agree. Responding to Ropella " Similarly, why pay a bunch of money for a fossilized form of knowledge from, say, an English cosmologist when I can chat with my local cosmologist over a pint?" which might have been a tongue in cheek statement, ( it sure would have been if coming from me) I have to exclaim FOR DIVERSITY! Reading thoughts of physics, biologists, other scientists, medical people, geologists, sociologists, etc, from many places helps to take my thinking along that much faster! Talking to one's local cosmologist, one will get a good, well rounded opinion that has read much on that subject, but their own biases, ways of interpreting things, etc, influence how they deal with the information. I think I have a fairly decent handle on global warming, ice melts, research on ice core samples, etc and have my own proposal out there of what we should do about it all (HGC). But I sure do keep listening to other proposals because there are many ways to peel an orange, and my way might not be as efficient. So, relating that to buying books -- we need access to lots of information to be informed, to be useful voters, leaders of local government, teachers of our own children, etc. I prefer reading books with paper pages because too much screen time (here I am on a screen) gets me weirded out. I just don't want a kindle.I think there is also a level of privacy in reading a book and handing it to another person to read. I value privacy very highly, not having much. Either way need to pay people for their work. -- Miss Peggy Miller, owner/OEO Highland Winds wix.com/peggymiller/highlandwinds Art Studio/HerbShop is at 1520 S. 7th St. W.
