I guess I don't get it.   On one hand an agent is defined by her many body 
interactions with others, on the other hand somehow some enduring sort of 
properties of the individual agents -- these principles -- matter with regard 
to maintaining the many body relationships.   Intuitively if some subset of 
agents can up and change the force fields in this many body system however they 
might fancy, it seems like that would, well, shake the system up in some 
interesting way, and shed more light on the space of the possible than if the 
couplings were changing in some scheduled or predictable way?   It reminds me

Hm. So you're distinguishing between someone calling the actor "corrupt" versus 
the actor, itself, thinking it's "corrupted". I agree that a closed actor 
proceeds with (little or) no concern for its neighbors' opinions. But that 
doesn't mean it's immune to corruption, even purely *social* corruption. If the 
environment is changed by one of the other actors such that the constraints on 
the closed actor change in some way, then it can send the closed actor into a 
self-reinforcing dynamic from which it can't escape. To boot, if the closed 
actor has a memory and an anticipatory capability to model itself, then the 
interactions between its past, present, and future self is similar to (if not 
identical with) social interactions, again allowing patterns like corruption.

If, inside the closed system, the physics is (somehow) open, then the 
anticipatory model may not be accurate enough to expect an eventual outcome. 
It's model is falsified and whatever faith was placed in the model in times 
prior, the system's been corrupted because it differs from the anticipation.

Of course, this is all "angel's on the head of a pin" because there are no 
completely closed systems. Even if we accept closure in some dimension, 
openness is required in other dimensions.
