Cody -

Thanks, what an interesting twist....

Every spring I spread sunflower seeds over any fresh snow.   Most of them feed the birds (and other critters) but every summer I get sunflowers sprouting in places I didn't expect.   It seems like a good symbolic thing for Ukranians to do would be to spread a handful of seed for every Russian soldier killed (or even every death, Russian/Ukranian, Soldier/Citizen).   6 months from now it will be a reminder of what happened during this time.  Hopefully it will be more of a tragic memory than an ongoing tragedy by then.

I still haven't closed the loop with my Ukranian colleagues, though we haven't communicated in years at this point.   I suspect they are near some front or another shooting at russian invaders.   They are both in their 40s and vigorous in their chainsmokingly lean bodies, and very assertive in getting done whatever they believe needs to be done.  I don't know how representative they are of Ukranians in general, but if they are a model, then the reports we hear of the citizen-resistance are well founded.
