I organized a meeting once at LANL and invited Doug, a bunch of people from
Sony, and my boss at the time. It wasn’t exactly easy to organize due to how
LANL is set up. The Sony people were lovely. Perhaps LANL was a very
different organization before the transition away from the University of
California as a manger and could accommodate personalities like Doug. But I
never would have got away with the things he did, and I’m not so sure he was on
the right side. I guess this message won’t really carry any information for
anyone except for Steve.

Doug Roberts?

Oh, if ever Doug was rolling in his grave. The swirlies and nouggies I might
have endured if he were still alive.

I'd almost forgotten about Doug's compulsive adolescent snark directed at your
fascination with vortices.

It makes me wonder what he'd make of the AI phase transition we are in. He had
(IMO) both progressive and regressive ideas about simulation science/tech.

Makes me wonder if there is a mirror/parallel quantity to PV which would be
Latent Vorticity (LV)

and is that similar to the torque that people who might roll in their grave
experience? Or is it a measure of the rolling they would do if they could do
rolling? How much roll would a Doug Roberts roll if Doug Roberts could roll
(in his grave)?

I won't even suggest someone train up an LLM on all of Doug's posts in response
to Nick's to create a simulacra to harangue him?
