But acutely apt, nevertheless... it was a useful insight...  as often float around here in this space.

.  It took me a long time to grasp a large organization (like LANL) as a host organism.

I have a hard time not interpreting any complex human organization as an organism...  I was taught by my upbringing (parents, community, educational system, beyond) that in fact I needed to find a host organism to support the myriad needs I had beyond my hominid/primate/mammalian/vertebrate base...  which by some measure feels like *all* my needs.   Money, groceries, electricity, road-systems, fuel, etc.

I also find most "host" systems I inhabit to have a strong immune system which it behooves me to avoid triggering. <deleted anecdote about leaving a briefcase at the guardshack and having to deal with the bomb squad>

I can thank Trump for learning it applies to nations too.

I am not sure I fully understand with what you mean but my version of it is that Nationalism (at all scales) is about, maintaining an immune-system response and often deliberately triggering auto-immune responses in your own nation (anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, anti-Intellectual, anti-woke, anti ... ) or in others (provoking regime change from within, then assualting the "body" on the hopes that the internal immune system will expunge the current dominating microbiome/party/theocracy)...

yes, this is a good analysis of my (childhood and beyond) nature...   though I'm not sure "reveal less" is my signature here?   More likely "hiding in plain sight"...

I like your use of the term "cognitive dominance".   It was very unequivocal albeit non-coerced.  Made it easy for me to submit to institutional (LANL) life even though I sandwiched those 27 years on either side with a decade or more of entrepreneurial activity.  While it *was* chafing I came to it with good callouses.
