Join Global Santa Fe for a timely and thought-provoking talk and interview
with *Samuel Baker, Ph.D.*, on “The Promise and Peril of AI: A Humanities
Perspective." As artificial intelligence promises to rapidly reshape our
economy, politics, and daily life, Dr. Baker will explore both its
transformative potential and its ethical, cultural, and social risks,
offering a humanities-driven perspective on one of the defining
technologies of our time.

Samuel Baker, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English at the University of
Texas at Austin and a co-founder of the Good Systems Ethical AI Texas Grand
Challenge, which he chaired in 2021-22. He currently leads the Good Systems
“Living and Working With Robots” research team, and is a principal
organizer of the Alliance for Interdisciplinary AI, a consortium of
university AI ethics programs. His research topics include AI safety,
human-AI interaction, generative AI and creative labor, harmful traits in
AI companions, and literary close reading as a benchmark task for
evaluating artificial intelligence. He previously co-led the “Bad AI and
Beyond” project, examining how media representations shape public
understanding of AI, and has helped organize a series of other
cross-disciplinary initiatives exploring the societal impacts of emerging
technologies.

*THE IRAN WAR: WHAT WE KNOW, WHAT COMES NEXT*
*Steven Cook (CFR), Ambassador Deborah Jones and Beth Sanner (CNN)*

Steven Cook, Amb. Deborah Jones and Beth Sanner draw on their years of
experience for an insightful conversation on the war on Iran. With so much
uncertainty surrounding the negotiations, their views provide rarely heard
context on how we got to where we are today and what may happen next. This
conversation was recorded on April 20 for KSFR's The Forum and WorldNow,
hosted by the World Affairs Council of Connecticut.

*ROGUE STATES: LEARNING FROM THE PAST*
*A Conversation with Diplomatic Historia Matthew Frakes*

In our conversation, Matthew Frakes, author of *Rogue States: The Making of
America’s Global War on Terror*, takes us back to the Ronald Reagan and
George H. W. Bush presidencies—when policies forged in that era help
explain, in part, what we’re witnessing today in Iran and, earlier this
year, in Venezuela.

Listeners will also hear a short archival clip of George H. W. Bush and
Margaret Thatcher speaking to reporters at the Aspen Institute on August 2,
1990, just as Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait was unfolding, a moment that would
help shape the future U.S. approach to state-sponsored aggression.
