Samuel Baker, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin and a co-founder of the Good Systems Ethical AI Texas Grand Challenge, which he chaired in 2021-22. He currently leads the Good Systems “Living and Working With Robots” research team, and is a principal organizer of the Alliance for Interdisciplinary AI, a consortium of university AI ethics programs. His research topics include AI safety, human-AI interaction, generative AI and creative labor, harmful traits in AI companions, and literary close reading as a benchmark task for evaluating artificial intelligence.
