Dear Martin, I tried to reproduce your error, but got a different one ?? see below.
This build was done on my ubuntu 9.10, amd64, (core i7) with the fricas-1.1.0-full.tar.bz2 , 2010-07-04, from sourceforge. Note that I was able to build fricas with sbcl and with closure on this machine before, so environmental and library stuff can be excluded, this build was with SBCL 1.0.29.11.debian.
