monomial(1,1) is widely used, it's also the most convenient way
to construct a SUP:

x := monomial(1,1)$SUP INT
f := x^3+2*x^2+x

I wonder if it's worth it to add a new function as a shorthand
of monomial(1,1).  And if so, which name will be appropriate?
