Join us! Birthday Celebration for Miracle, the Sacred White Buffalo August 20, 2012 Janesville, Wisconsin Miracle, the Sacred White Buffalo http://www.nativevillage.org/Inspiration-/Both%20Miracles/Miracle,%20The%20Sacred%20White%20Buffalo/Miracle%20Birthday%202012.htm Miracle, the Sacred White Buffalo, was born on the farm of Dave, Valerie, and Corey Heider near Janesville, Wisconsin, during the morning of August 20, 1994. She was the first white buffalo calf born since 1933. Miracle gave birth to four calves of her own before dying of natural causes on September 19, 2004. The Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nations (known collectively as the Sioux) were considered Miracle's primary spiritual guardians. She played a pivotal role in the fulfillment of their most sacred prophecies. Miracle was also revered in the prophecies and beliefs of other tribes and is a sacred symbol to American Indians across the continent. While other white buffalo have been born in modern times, Miracle's birth is especially significant because she, alone, fulfills what the White Buffalo Calf Woman prophesied: The calf would be a female; The bull that sired her would die shortly after her birth; The white buffalo calf would change colors four times to signify the four colors of the peoples she would unify: black, red, yellow, and white. Joseph Chasing Horse is a Lakota Sundance chief, UN ambassador, and descendant of Crazy Horse. He says that Lakota winter counts -- which date the telling of the White Buffalo Calf Woman story in sacred ceremonies -- confirm that Miracle is the buffalo calf of the prophesy. "This is like the second coming of Christ on this island of North America. The legend is she would return and unify the nations of the four colors -- the black, red, yellow and white." Floyd Hand, Sioux medicine man Although not American Indian, the Heiders viewed Miracle as a special gift who belongs to the hearts of all people. Commercialization has never been allowed. Instead, they freely opened their farm so visitors could offer prayers or simply be in her presence. Thousands of pilgrims traveled to this simple farm. Few left unaffected by their time there. On Monday, August 20, 2012, Dave and Valerie Heider will once more opening their Janesville farm for guests who wish to honor Miracle's life. For those traveling to pay their respects, we welcome you and wish you a safe trip. Please park in the Heider's driveway. Seating is limited, so please bring lawn chairs. For those unable to attend, the Heiders invite you to sign Miracle 2012 Birthday card using the form on the Native Village website.
