hi,
Hi,
it seems that the tools (pacman-tools and pacman-g2) has now the proper
support to play with git repos. at least it works fine for voroskoi and
me
so we have 3 tasks to do imho:
1) it would be good if others could test this, too
see http://wiki.frugalware.org/Git_setup#Testing for instructions
I'll test it today.
2) i hope we can be sure about the tools are right (and fix the upcoming
bugs) and we can have a schedule for switching
i would propose something like:
- jul 4th evening: locking all the repos, starting the convert of
current
- jul 6th evening: if everything goes fine, that should be complete till
then
- jul 7th evening: fix the testsuite and the tools dir (this is the 3rd
task, these are minor issues)
- jul 8th: open for new patches (in git's terminology, commits)
i really hope it won't take more than 3-4 days to switch, i know that
it's a PITA when you can push any feture/bugfix/secfix for days
Well why would you like to rush something like this ?
Is done when is done , when everything is converted *and* works as it
should even is done in a week or more.
( of course IMO )
about stable: this is something that probably voroskoi can decide, given
that the tool updates are backward-compatible ones, we're not forced to
switch. we can though, just then updating stable from stable won't work
:)
about other repos: they're realatively small, we can convert them
anytime, but i think it would be good to lock them too for those days
and provide converted repos for them, too
I don't really care about my repo , I think it will go away sometimes
soon and I'll rebase it to match git for easy merging etc.
i hope that this is basically ok to you, though the first is obviously:
For me it is.
please check out the wiki page, try to push an update (include some
"test patch for git" or so in the commit message) and report how it goes
:)
Will do so :p
ps: again, repoman rec and repoman push should be almost the same for
git and it is for darcs, and for other repos, pacman-tools now contains
Hehe , I hope so ;)
dg, you may want to give it a try till you're not comfortable with git
:)
Thx for your work on dg , be sure I'll cause I don't really like
git[1][2] even is faster and has better features ( even I use it for
some things already ).
crazy
[1] $ ls /usr/bin/git*|wc -l -> 144
[2] call me lazy but I really don't have any time ( at least not any
time soon ) to figure all the stuff from [1] :p
