Thanks for the advice, Miklos. I'll give all this a shot.

I attempted this, but as soon as pacman-g2 is updated it begins to
Segfault on every package. Example:

:: Retrieving packages from frugalware-current...
(  1/465) libpng-1.4.4-1 [                ] -2147483648%       0K
0.0K/s  Internal pacman-g2 error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report, with the given package if appropriate.

My first guess was it is linked to a library that is not yet updated.
So I reverted it back to the previous version and started over, but
had the same result. Probably a topic for another thread or maybe a
bug report. If it is a defect in pacman-g2, it would seem I ought to
see it fixed in stable before I upgrade to current.

In the meantime, any sense in submitting these patches to current
while running stable, or should I hold off until I'm fully upgraded?
