Hi everyone ! I introduce myself briefly. My name is Dorian JORGE. I live in France and I'm currently web developer. I'm interested by frugalware for 6 months now though I haven't installed it on my laptop for the moment... But I already contributed translating some pages of the wiki and I try to help people on the forum.
I wanted to react to James's email because I'm glad to read this :) I think the installer is a big weakness for frugalware. I tried several installations to help someone and each time I had to download a lot of packages even with the DVD iso. It's really long and disheartning... In addition, when we make an installation from a livecd I have the impression that it makes a netinstall whereas there is a live session which runs with available packages in the live media. I think it would be really great if we can make an install from present packages. I had in mind to improve this installer but my knowledges in C and shell script are too limited. I just programed microcontrollers during my studies four years ago. I'm better with php... So I know I must work a lot before to be able to improve your installer. But if you want I help you, it would be with pleasure ! So, in the end we would end up with these options: 1) Single CD iso with only base group. (minimal local install) 2) Single DVD iso with all main groups. (maximum local install) I am just doing research for it, as I don't plan to write anything until after 1.7 most likely.
