I'm not sure why you insist on using 1.9 rc2 . Try using the latest, 1.9 stable to install. Then modify /etc/pacman-g2.conf to switch to current and update. From what I know 1.9 final will choose where to install GRUB2 by itself so be careful with that. Ryuo can tell you more about this.
