I would like to announce the next meeting of the Free Software Club of Kirksville.
The meeting will take place at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 28 in Violette Hall Room 1220. If you choose one meeting to attend this semester please make this the one! We are going to be talking about the future of FSCK and where we would like the group to go. For this next meeting we have several items planned, including: - Ben Jordan from Truman ITS showing off a Compaq iPaq running Linux that he uses to help troubleshoot network problems. - I will be talking a little bit about next-generation cell-phones. With the announcement of Apple's new iPhone, a new race has begun in the "smart phone" arena. However, "smart phones" are not limited to the Apple iPhone and Microsoft Pocket PC based phones. Come by to hear about open-source alternatives and how you can get involved. - I will also be talking about a distributed computing project that has been ongoing for nearly a decade, Distributed.net. Distributed.net is similar to the SETI-at-Home initiative that uses spare computer cycles to do heavy computational lifting. My hope is that an FSCK team can be formed and we can show how open-source based computers can contribute to the cause. - Google Summer of Code has been announced for Summer 2007. We will go over opportunities to be involved in Google sponsored open-source software and how to get paid for it! - Open discussion time. Free forum where just about anything tech related goes. I am hoping that we will have some fresh new faces at the meeting, so hopefully we can use this time to help them with any issues they might have. I would really like everyone's help getting the word out about this meeting. If any you have time, I would love some help chalking on sidewalks and in classrooms, hanging fliers, and chatting up possible members. Please email off-list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or give me a call at 342-3357. Hope to see you all there, Jason Novinger ----------------------------------------------------------------- To get off this list, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with Subject: unsubscribe -----------------------------------------------------------------
