Alright everyone,
This is the first semi-official announcement for the Fall 2007 Math
and Computer Science Bar Crawl. This has mostly been planned by the
members of this year's graduating Computer Science class.
Unfortunately, we (I) have not done a great job of seeking out the
opinion of Math majors. We had talked about earlier in the semester
and simply found ourselves running out of time. For that, I
apologize.
We have set a date, Saturday, December 8th. We will start at 6pm at
Il Spazio for dinner and drinks. As always, everyone is welcome for
the dinner portion of the evening. However, you will need to be 21 or
older to order alcoholic drinks or go with us after Il Spazio. We
talked about where we should go after that, but decided to leave it
somewhat open-ended. It was generally agreed that we stay with the
downtown area.
So, now something a little more serious. We came up with a t-shirt
design. It is admittedly CS based, although the Traveling Salesman
problem goes back aways (1930's, check it out!). The t-shirt designs
are available at:

I have heard that there were some comments. Comic Sans is always a
mistake (thanks Austin); it will be changed to the other font that is
in use (Acid Reflux). Also, it sounds like some people don't like the
year in hexadecimal on the front. I, personally, am inclined to
leave, but only really because I like it. I understand that there is
a feeling that the shirt is a little too CS.
Here is my suggestion, let me know if I am crazy. Since this t-shirt
is pretty well done, and we took the initiative to get it done, why
don't we leave it and the Math majors can take over t-shirt duties in
the spring. I can see this being a trend, CS t-shirt in the fall and
Math in the Spring. Sound crazy? If it really is too much, we can
change it.
So, since we are pressed for time, I have a quote from a t-shirt shop
in town. Our price will be $14.50 per shirt including tax, which
seems reasonable given the time frame. However, we do need to have an
order in by tomorrow afternoon. I will be setting up an order page
this evening. There will be an email when it is ready.
Alright then, let me know what you think.
