Ian,

Thanks.  I looked at QuickLauncher, and because it's description talked about
frequently used applications, I assume it chose the applications you used the
most and displayed those.  I even tried it out, and saw that "Configure
Quicklauncher..." didn't let me choose applications.  Of course, I missed the
menu entry below that one that did let me choose the applications.  I
appreciate it that you drew my attention back to it.

I'd still love to find an applet that acted like a toggle switch, but this
will be a good start.
