OK — If we have some time left, I can talk in ~10-15 mins about things to do with electronic devices for fun and profit, like hacking mp3 players, xboxes, setting up media streaming/converting servers,...

Btw, I have a pretty high performance nginx server at http://htruong/ (on-campus only) to play around with high-definition stuff (although the streaming function for MP4 files doesn't work for now, so I disabled it -- streaming flv does work). So how to set it up can be a part of the talk, also.

Huan,

I bet you'd have something good on video encoding or some such.

I think there are many "techie" people out there, even in different
fields. I am thinking of physics, business, art, bio, math . . . all
over the place. They just need to know it is happening. I mean, come
one, who wouldn't want to know how to encode the latest DVD in MPEG 4
Part 10 (h264) at 1080p at 5mbps? Or how bittorrent works? Or how
the campus network works? I bet, if you get word to folks in IT early,
they might even be interested.

Just a few thoughts,

Jason

I'd love to listen to you guys, as always.

But I'm unsure about non-tech people, though.

I'd be up for it again. I've been playing some with the java-gnome
bindings, which make it a snap to use GTK2 with Java. Haven't done
anything really impressive yet -- but something like this might give
me a reason to put something together. I would also be happy to do
something with network again, or telephone or coax cable building.

Anybody else?

Geek week is upon us. We had talked tentatively about having a
BAR conference as an event. I entered a reservation into the
emspro system for VH1200 from 1:30-4:30 on Saturday.

Is there interest in having a BAR conference? Will people come
to listen and to give impromptu talks "for geeks?"

I should know Monday that the reservation is in (a 'real person'
generally calls me to verify). At that point, if people say they
will come, I'll ask the Facebook group for Geek Week to add our
event to their calendar.
