Hi all, If you want to try or to run Trubuntu from your computer (incl. Macs!), this is probably the fastest way. Trubuntu will boot off the cutting edge version straight off the network. You need to be on Truman network, with a wired connection. You need an existing computer that is running any version of Ubuntu and a USB flash disk too, to create the "bootstrapping" flash drive. I will probably work on a Windows compact installer some time in the future, but you'll need Ubuntu for now.
If you already have Ubuntu ISO image, good, you can use that. If not, download from http://talc/ Actually we just need a few files from the ISO. Go to System > Administration > Startup Disk Creator and choose the Ubuntu ISO file you have to create a Ubuntu USB startup disk. Now, we'll need to convince the disk to boot Trubuntu. Look at the disk that you've just created. In syslinux directory, you'll find the file named text.cfg. Add a line after the block of lines that reads Try Ubuntu... with the following content: 8<--8<--8<-- label trubuntu menu label Trubuntu ^Live text help Boot Trubuntu Live endtext kernel /casper/vmlinuz append boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz toram netboot=nfs nfsroot=150.243.162.22:/home/trubuntu splash -- 8<--8<--8<-- Also, change the line that reads "default ubuntu" with "default trubuntu". That way it'll choose Trubuntu by default without having to press the "any" key on the purple startup screen to move to the Trubuntu entry :-) Now start the computer with the key. Enjoy Trubuntu. If you have less than 1GB of RAM, remove the option "toram." If you have a Mac, install Bootcamp and press the Option key when starting your computer, and choose Windows (???). If you like Trubuntu and want to have Trubuntu installed permanently on the flash disk, just replace all the files named filesystem.* downloaded from http://talc.truman.edu/trubuntu/casper/ to the casper directory on your USB drive. - Huan. ----------------------------------------------------------------- To get off this list, send email to [email protected] with Subject: unsubscribe -----------------------------------------------------------------
