I different (and perhaps better) approach would be to implement a
database backed file system, that would then support all file
operations towards the database. This would also be something that
would be interesting to ship with our distribution so if you need any
help I could be of assistance :-)

Hi Niklas
In my specific case EDI documents are dropped in and picked up, and non
SQL transactions are performed on a proprietary database. I implemented
a solution with the available API with which we are happy.
Can you expand on the database file system?
